Kenneth Shiau

Kenneth (Ken) Shiau brings a decade of experience in the legal world to Melete Legal. His work has run the gamut for small and large businesses, ranging from employment-based immigration work visas and residence permits to labor disputes and employment contracts and from equity financing and trademark protection to asset sales and corporate reorganizations. Prior to starting Melete Legal, Ken worked at a boutique law firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he counseled clients throughout the Southwest and US on corporate and intellectual property matters, specializing in corporate governance, securities, and trademark law. His work included assisting several, local New Mexican businesses and entrepreneurs with entity formation and capital raising. Through Melete Legal, Ken is primarily focused on representing small and early-stage companies where growth and protection of the business, technologies, and intellectual property are key. Ken understands that having a strong foundation is key to long-term success and his focus includes helping clients establish, repair, and maintain that foundation.

Ken was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas to two immigrant parents. His father, a civil engineer by trade, started his own business but Ken has always had an entrepreneurial mind. In middle school, he purchased a soldering iron from Radio Shack and repaired Guitar Hero controllers for extra money. Ken then attended college in Austin, Texas, where he completed the Business Foundations program at the McCombs School of Business. The classic Lemonade Stand game was part of the program and Ken would play it religiously, attempting to learn and master all of its intricacies. While attending law school in Boulder, Colorado, he solidified his desire to pursue a legal career in business and technology and confirmed his passion for the outdoors. Ken moved to New Mexico in 2022 where he could be closer to his Southwestern roots..

When not at his desk, you can find Ken backpacking with his dog, Akira, off-roading in the backcountry of the Southern Rockies, or hitting powder stashes at the local ski hill. Ken is a big proponent of maintaining and preserving our outdoor space, and you can often find him volunteering with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance and New Mexico 4 Wheelers for trail maintenance work..
